We are excited to announce that Beech Veltman and SDG Legal have entered into a collaboration arrangement to jointly expand, enhance and leverage service offerings into the energy sector. While SDG Legal and Beech Veltman have historically provided extensive legal services into the energy sector including oil, gas and renewable energy, the collaboration between SDG Legal and Beech Veltman will create a platform to jointly provide leveraged specialist legal services with a strong focus on renewable energy. Combining our extensive experience will place us in an even better position to assist both existing and new clients across the project lifecycle from pre-project through to steady-state generation and supply.
Our Objective:
By collaborating, SDG Legal and Beech Veltman will provide joint, multi–disciplinary services to the energy sector. We are committed to remaining:
- Agile;
- Client focused;
- Responsive; and
- Dedicated to long-term partnerships with our clients
Our comprehensive service offering includes:
Development Support: We offer comprehensive assistance with securing land rights and navigating the complex authorisation processes required for energy projects. Our expertise includes guiding clients through all processes around environmental authorizations, licencing and land rights and approvals, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements to facilitate smooth project development.
We also provide assistance in relation to critical stakeholder engagement processes with key stakeholders such as landowners, local communities and regulators.
Procurement Support: Our services extend to providing strategic support in procurement processes, including advising clients bidding into the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), Risk Mitigation IPP Programmes, and Battery Energy Storage IPP Procurement Programmes (BES). We advise clients on all legal aspects of this process and issue the necessary land and environmental legal opinions. We also guide clients seeking to facilitate or bid into private procurement requests for proposals (RFPs). Our aim is to ensure that clients achieve optimal procurement outcomes and align with industry standards.
Secured Offtake to Financial Close: We support clients through the crucial stages of securing offtake agreements and achieving financial close. Our services include structuring project finance and corporate finance arrangements, negotiating construction contracts, and managing all aspects related to securing financing and closing deals for renewable energy projects.
Dispute Resolution Services: While litigation or arbitration is never the preferred route and is something we strive to avoid through negotiation, it is occasionally necessary for our clients to enforce their rights or respond to appeals against, amongst others, their Environmental Authorisations. When such situations arise—often with urgent demands—our team handles them in a unique manner. Rather than passing the matter to a separate litigation department, we ensure that a projects lawyer works closely with the litigators. This approach ensures a complete understanding of the entire project development process and how the litigation fits into the broader scope of the project. It also guarantees that the litigation team is fully aware of the urgency, bankability, and other risks associated with the outcome, preventing any settlements that might compromise the project’s financial viability or marketability.
Construction Phase: During the construction phase, we assist with the implementation of agreements, ensuring that contractual obligations are met and managing any delays that may arise. Our focus is on maintaining project momentum and addressing issues promptly to keep the project on track.
Post COD: After the project reaches its commercial operation date, we continue to provide support with operation queries, handling change requests, and facilitating re-financing as needed. Where operational assets are sold, we facilitate the necessary due diligences, sale arrangements (which often include a cross-border element), and liaising with lenders and regulators to obtain the necessary consents.
Our goal is to ensure the continued success and efficiency of the project through its operational lifecycle.
Energy Traders: We guide Energy Traders as they navigate the complexities of balancing the needs and desires of their customers (the energy consumers) and the requirements of generators and lenders. Our approach is always practical and aimed at managing their risk whilst facilitating the growth of this vital market.
We look forward to continuing to support your needs with these expanded services and our enhanced expertise.
